My 10th IDMRCS Experience: Diving into Vibrational Dynamics

Thanks to the Young Researcher and Innovator Conference Grant (Action CA 22107), I attended the 10th International Discussion Meeting on Relaxations in Complex Systems in Barcelona (20–25 July 2025). I presented an invited talk—“Boson Peak and Glassy Behavior in Benzene Derivatives: Heat Capacity Investigations of Quasiplanar Molecular Crystals”—in Symposium 6: Thermal Properties & Glass Transition and chaired the closing session on low-temperature anomalies.

I also co-authored four collaborative talks that probed key scientific questions:

  • Ultralow lattice thermal conductivity mechanisms in polymer-like ZnO-P₂O₅ glasses
  • Low-frequency vibrational modes and two-level systems in 1-X-adamantane (X = Cl, Br)
  • Comparative analysis of boson peaks in glasses versus disordered crystals
  • Disorder-induced heat-capacity anomalies in para-chloronitrobenzene

Beyond the podium, I engaged with leading theorists and experimentalists:

  • Walter Schirmacher on elastic-heterogeneity models for frozen-in stresses
  • Alessio Zaccone on his universal heat-propagation framework
  • Giacomo Baldi’s group on terahertz excitations in low-dimensional systems
  • Javier Rodríguez-Viejo’s team on ultrastable glasses and nanoscale thermal transport

These discussions laid the groundwork for joint studies combining ultrafast calorimetry, terahertz spectroscopy, and advanced simulations. The YRICG grant not only elevated my scientific profile but also ignited new interdisciplinary collaborations that will drive my research on vibrational dynamics and thermal transport in complex, disordered materials.
